"Ohio Star(s)". 16" x 24", 2020

December 28, 2020

It seemed past time to relocate this from the home page of the website to a blog post. I kept all the words but lost some of the information on the photos - like direct links to appropriate blog posts. Lucky for us, the gallery for this show on the home page still has that information.

"Abstract, Traditional and all In-between" a virtual show

"Abstract, Traditional and all In-between", a collection of small quilts and fiber art by Kathy Steere, was intended to be presented at the Steel Beam Theater in St. Charles, IL April 3 - May 17, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show  was cancelled. But because of the wonders of technology, you can see the virtual exhibit right here on this very website.

My thanks to Sharon S. at Cultural Connections as curator of the theater gallery space and to Sharon M. for the opportunity to meet Sharon S.  Thanks also to all those who helped spread the word about the exhibit and the cancellation thereof!

This is a very eclectic collection of ideas, subject matter, styles and techniques. All are done in the manner of a "quilt" meaning three layers of fabric stitched together. "Wholecloth" is a single piece of fabric used for the entire front of the quilt. With two small exceptions, everything was on hand - I only had to purchase beads for poppy seeds and green fabric for pickle relish.

Fiber is the medium for this art exhibit. Every quilt, every piece of art has a story and some of those stories are told in blog posts. If you ask, I'm happy to tell you or your group more than you ever wanted to know!

Thank you for visiting my website and this virtual exhibit. Without further ado, please sit back and enjoy "Abstract, Traditional and all In-between"...

Thank you for taking the time to look at this collection of small quilts. Some of them have separate blog posts with more information about the inspiration and process of making them.

Please contact me if you are interested in hosting this exhibit or having me speak to your group. Thank you.
